Abstract

This research aims to analyze the determinants of educational quality in Peru, using the PISA 2018 database. This database shows the characteristics of the student and his or her context, such as the social and economic index of the family, the student’s gender, age, parental employment, number of teachers, among others. The methodology used in the research is a quantitative, descriptive, non-experimental approach with crosssectional data; which implies the study of the variables in one year (2018). The dependent variable is the reading comprehension results, due to their relevance for PISA that year. The independent variables considered are: parents’ occupational status index, school size, type of school management, extracurricular activities carried out by students, student-teacher ratio and parents’ education index. The results show that belonging to a public school influences students’ results, as well as not having internet connection and a higher studentteacher ratio decreases students’ performance. On the other hand, parents’ occupational status index, parents’ schooling index, school size and extracurricular activities increase student outcomes.
