Abstract

Studying productive efficiency at the regional level is relevant, since it can guide policies that influence the reallocation of resources between the different economic sectors, and thus increase the value of production. This research applies data envelopment analysis to generate productive efficiency indicators in the 74 metropolitan areas (ZM) of the country and relates them to the sectors that make up the high-tech industry. The results indicate that the level of productive efficiency is not related to the geographical location of the ZM. Likewise, it is verified that more economic units dedicated to high-tech activities (a ZM) improve their productive efficiency. For relative measures, the results are not robust.
